Summer Nutrition Coordinator

Job Summary:
Camp Ihduhapi is located on 175 acres on Lake Independence in Loretto, Minnesota, just west of Minneapolis by 30 minutes. Each summer over 1,400 campers, ages 7-16 attend overnight camp. An important part of the camp experience is eating family-style meals in the Dining Hall! The typical session length is Sunday – Friday. We’re looking for a creative Nutrition Coordinator Intern to design and implement a nutritious and exciting menu this summer, as well as manage food orders, accommodate allergies/dietary restrictions, and train/schedule kitchen staff. A Nutrition Coordinator Intern with a commitment to fostering a positive work environment, wiliness to lead/mentor teens and young adults, and desire to design a creative menu is a must! This position is seasonal from mid-May through September, will be 40 hours/week, and pay $18/hour.

Essential Functions:
o  Develops menu plans that support healthy, nutritious meals and options for a wide variety of dietary needs and restrictions.
o  Maintains an appropriate inventory of food supplies while working with food providers to ensure quality of food supplies.
o  Prepares or oversees the preparation and serving of meals in camp Dining Hall.
o  Develops and enforces safety and cleanliness protocols.
o  Hires, trains, schedules and supervises kitchen staff to meet kitchen needs.
o  Maintains positive relationships with staff and volunteers which support the Y’s vision.

Relationships:
This position reports to the Program Director or the Executive Director. The Nutrition Coordinator supervises kitchen staff, and regularly interacts with participants, the general public, staff, and volunteers.

Qualifications:
Required:
o  Minimum age of 18.
o  Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in food service preparation or equivalent experience.
o  Minimum of one (1) year of experience managing a commercial kitchen to include supervision or work direction to kitchen staff or equivalent experience
o  Demonstrated experience providing high quality, tasty menu planning
o  Serve Safe Certification by the county Public Health Department or the ability to obtain the certification
o  Effective verbal communication skills
o  Basic computer skills
o  Ability to and desire work to with diverse groups, including young people
o  $18.50/hour
Preferred:
o  Knowledge of kitchen equipment operation
o  Post-secondary education in nutrition

Work Conditions:
o  Ability to lift, carry and push food carts up to 50 pounds.
o  Requires ability to safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. (The incumbent utilizes equipment which can be potentially dangerous to include knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and cleaning chemicals.)
o  Ability to stand for long periods of time.

This position is full-time during summer months.
