Assistant Director of Outreach & Coalitions

The Civics Center
The Civics Center is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on high school voter registration and civic engagement. Four million Americans turn 18 every year, and the vast majority are eligible to register to vote while they are in high school. Yet no effective infrastructure exists to make sure that every eligible high school student receives encouragement and an equal opportunity to register to vote. The Civics Center addresses this challenge with ideas, education, and action. Effective collaboration with allied organizations and leaders is a key part of our work.

Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Outreach and Coalitions will play a critical role in building our collaborations with an emphasis on youth, community, educational, equity-oriented, and democracy-building groups and leaders. The work in 2021 will focus on Southern California, Arizona, and Pennsylvania and will expand to other regions and states as our capacity and staff increase in future years.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Outreach and Coalitions include the following:

  • Lead and manage outreach and relationship building with community leaders, educators, and organizations and use distributed and relational organizing tools to build out regional outreach in our target communities.

  • Build effective relationships with other groups to promote joint programming, referrals, and expansion of the Ready to Vote Coalition, the coalition TCC convenes to support High School Voter Registration Week and our other youth and democracy work. Seek endorsements of HSVRW from community and school leaders and elected officials.

  • Support and contribute to the development of TCC’s student network, recruiting new participants for TCC’s programming and serving as a liaison between student leaders and local nonpartisan organizations that promote civic engagement.

  • Develop and support TCC’s educator network, including meeting regularly with educators, coordinating programming and communications, and promoting TCC’s work in schools.

You are always honest, open about mistakes, and you enjoy helping others.

  • You are a great communicator. You listen to others and care what they have to say. You can communicate with diverse audiences in an engaging way both orally and in writing. You are committed to making communications both accurate and fun and to building relationships for TCC among a broad array of groups, leaders, educators, and students.
