Engineering Technician (CAD Technician)

This position is a part the National Gallery of Art’s Facilities Management (AFM) Division. Incumbent creates and manages physical and electronic drawings created by Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs and maintains the Gallery’s architecture and engineering graphic assets.

Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the position includes preparing and managing engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural) and architectural drawings, and scanning, researching, organizing, archiving, and retrieving drawings. 

As an Engineering Technician, you will:
  • support the Gallery’s CAD program by preparing and managing CAD records for construction, repair, and renovation designs, including electrical, lighting plumbing, mechanical, and other layouts. Drawings require architectural and engineering design and drafting.
  • research the Gallery’s print and digital files for materials pertinent to each assignment. 
  • prepare prints of paper and CAD documents on request. 
  • maintain order in print and digital files. 
  • develop and maintains a legacy document database to record and track information on repair, maintenance, and construction projects.
  • support other Gallery CAD users. Provide assistance on CAD operation and application to Gallery CAD users. Assist CAD Manager in updating CAD standards for all users, and checks work products for conformance with CAD standards. Assist CAD Manager with system administration for establishing CAD directory structures, access controls, and user accounts. Consult and coordinates with the CAD Manager regarding standards for CAD, other databases, filing, and releasing information.
