Development Associate

General Summary:
 
The Development Associate works in partnership with Kartemquin’s Director of Development and Executive Director to provide strategic support for fundraising efforts in support of the organization’s operations, programs and films. This includes fundraising through foundation grants, corporate partners, special events, and individual giving. 
 
Primary responsibilities for role:
 
  • Manage and execute an annual strategy for KTQ’s annual fund membership program, analyzing past results and making recommendations for the program’s growth
  • Support the Development Director and Executive Director’s work to cultivate and solicit KTQ’s growing base of individual donors/members, building lists, creating campaign forms, managing timelines, and crafting compelling email appeals in Mailchimp
  • Steward and cultivate of KTQ’s member base through timely delivery of member perks and engagement through periodic screenings and events
  • Maintain accurate records of all donations, grants and updated donor contact information in the NEON database, ensuring proper gift processing and tax acknowledgment
  • Conduct research on potential funders to ascertain alignment between their interests and KTQ’s programs and initiatives
  • Draft, proof, and submit organizational grant applications and reports (shared workload with Director of Development)
  • Prepare materials and presentation decks for meetings with potential donors (shared workload with Director of Development)
  • Work with KTQ’s Director of Development to conceptualize, plan, and execute all logistics of the organization’s annual fall fundraising benefit event 
  • Assist Director of Development in shaping Kartemquin’s annual development strategy and plan (shared workload with Director of Development)
  • Be a resource to Kartemquin’s filmmakers regarding fundraising best practices, prospect research, and administrative support for grants, individual donors, and fundraising events (shared workload with Director of Development)
  • Engage with Kartemquin’s community of filmmakers with participation at community events, film screenings, and KTQ Labs
 
 This position reports to the Director of Development.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and G Suite, primarily word-processing, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Familiarity with MailChimp or similar email marketing softwares
  • Familiarity with Neon CRM or similar CRM database
  • Some experience with HTML, Squarespace, Eventbrite, and Adobe Creative suite preferred but not required
  • Strong writing skills and clear understanding of voice are mandatory – experience with development writing, such as grants or appeals, is a plus as are general creative writing skills
  • Interpersonal communication and networking skills with staff, board, donors, and foundation contacts via email, phone, and in-person meetings
  • Should have strong analytical, critical-thinking, and organizational skills as well as a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, problem-solve, and be a self-starter
  • Willingness to work with the larger Kartemquin team on interdepartmental tasks and events
 
Education and Experience:
 
  • Qualified candidates will have either a bachelor’s degree, associates degree or one or more years of related experience.
  • Some background in development and non-profit work, including event planning/execution, is a plus, but not required
  • Ideal candidate will have working knowledge and/or passion for documentary media and social justice issues as well as a familiarity with Kartemquin, its programs, and films
  • Should be passionate about writing and a plus to have professional and/or creative writing experience
 
Job Type: Exempt Full-Time, Salary
 
Compensation: Commensurate on experience, Salary ranges $35,000-$40,0000
