Development Intern Fall 2021

Cartel Pictures is a production company based in Hollywood. Our team develops and produces a range of feature films for various buyers and distributors (MOW, streamers, independent, etc). We work in a variety of genres including rom-coms, thrillers, action, horror, inspirational content, teen flicks and more. The intern or interns who work with this team need to have a solid understanding of story and screenwriting, since the majority of this position will entail understanding if scripts they read fit our various mandates, and providing coverage that highlights the nuances of what works for the buyer. The intern will also gain exposure to the development process. Over time there will be opportunities for creative input as the intern becomes more familiar with the needs of the department (one of our interns from last year generated a concept that was approved by our distributor, and is getting Story By credit for the film!).

Interns will work directly with a coordinator who will be their contact day-to-day, and will have weekly check-in calls with the development executive. Since these internships are virtual, we need candidates who are self-directed, but the intern coordinators will always be available for questions and discussions. Both coordinators work on or closely with the lit management side of the business, and are happy to discuss any questions related to that side of things, too.

Our interns work 2-3 days a week (we can be flexible to work with your schedules), and must receive college credit since these are unpaid positions. For candidates that seem like a good fit, we will conduct phone interviews, and ask for sample coverage to ensure that the student’s sensibilities match the department with which they are paired.

Please include your resume and cover letter.
