Communications Fall Intern

Who We Are: Political Research Associates
Political Research Associates (PRA) is a national nonprofit devoted to supporting movements that are building a more just and inclusive democratic society. We provide research, strategy, and briefings to expose movements, institutions, and ideologies that undermine human rights. PRA publishes The Public Eye magazine quarterly. Our office is located in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Who You Are: Communications Intern
You believe in the power of research to inform social justice advocacy. You are a junior or senior in college, a recent graduate, or someone who has developed a similar level of skill and experience through non-traditional means who is considering a career in journalism, research/analysis, or non-profits. We will consider other candidates who are otherwise excellent fits.

Requirements:
  • Commitment to social justice values and desire to pursue a related career
  • Interest in a social justice think tank environment that also serves as a publisher
  • Interest in website, social media, audio/video content creation, marketing and public relations
  • Excellent written communications, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Google suite, and Excel
  • Ability to multitask and handle short- and long-term projects
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and systems quickly and effectively
  • Ability to quickly synthesize information about new topics

Tasks and responsibilities:

Overall taks
  • Create a social media plan for articles
  • Draft and design content for social media posts
  • Track social media data
  • Analyze engagement data and write a monthly report on the state of PRA’s social media
  • Assist in database management, such as keeping contacts updated, creating a database of articles From the Archives, and creating a video database.
  • Transcribe webinars
Editorial Track:
  • Assist in sourcing images for web articles
  • Copyedit articles for the From The Archives series
Graphic Design Track:
  • Create infographics from data in our articles to post on social media
  • Assist in other basic design needs such as creating save the dates, or designing transcripts
Audio/Visual Track:
  • Assist in creating a library of clips from our webinars that can be shared easily
  • Assist in open captioning shorter clips

Location
Our internship program will be remote for the Fall of 2021. Our office operates on East Coast time. We are only able to accept applications from candidates who will be physically located in and performing work from one of the following states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Kentucky, or California. 

Compensation 
$17/hour. Independent contractor no benefits, no tax withholdings.  

Schedule 
Preferred start date: September 13th.
Latest start date: October 4th. 
Internship duration: 10-12 weeks.
Total amount of hours: 150
Average weekly hours: 15
