Junior Animator

Oscar, Emmy and BAFTA award-winning Visual Effects house Framestore is looking for a talented and focused Junior Animator to join our New York studio team. The Junior Animator produces the motions, gestures and expressions of three-dimensional computer graphic characters and objects for high-end VFX projects. They should possess a passion for storytelling and desire to bring photorealistic characters and creatures to life, with an understanding of the principles of animation, movement, and timing skills. Junior Animators will also have involvement in previsualization and postvis as projects require, and ideally have a keen sense for cinematic techniques used in storytelling

This is a full-time staff role with benefits, and although we are currently working remotely, this position will eventually require at least some onsite work in our New York studio.

Responsibilities:
  • Working closely with other Animators in the team to create compelling, story-driven and action packed moments that fit within the style and pacing of the project
  • Working closely with the Rigging and Pipeline departments providing suggestions and feedback to improve character setup, visual quality, rigs and tool functionality
  • Animating both primary and secondary characters and elements
  • Continuing to become familiar with new tools, software, data and other related technology

Job requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of Maya
  • Solid understanding of character posing, character animation lip sync and camera composition
  • An understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture and form
  • An understanding of rigs and typical rigging setups, animation pipelines and transferring data between tools
  • Strong communication skills are critical. Must be able to work within a team, taking direction and exercising attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment
  • Able and willing to follow direction and openly collaborate with others
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player, and organized
  • Ability to work well under pressure and open to working flexible hours
  • Adaptable and accepting of creative change throughout a project

Desired Skills:
  • A working knowledge of Modeling, Rigging and Mel/Python scripting
  • Basic knowledge of Layout
  • Previous experience working with motion capture data
  • A traditional animation and/or art background
  • Knowledge of human and animal anatomy as well as life drawing skills
