GENE SISKEL FILM CENTER PROGRAMMING INTERNSHIP (summer)

BASIC FUNCTION

This semester-long internship is designed to provide insight into the curation of the Gene Siskel Film Center’s robust on-screen calendar, virtual programming, year-round series and festivals, special events and initiatives in programming development. The Programming Intern assists the Director of Programming with varying aspects of the curatorial process including film festival and industry analysis, program engagement and marketing, and administrative and archive management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Director of Programming in various programming functions, including industry research, viewing films, contributing to marketing and engagement planning and implementation,
  • database management and long-range programmatic planning.
  • Collaborates on community engagement and outreach, including direct communication with stakeholders, affinity groups, prospective event/film partners and the Chicago film community at large.
  • Attends and contributes to regular staff, communications and committee meetings.
  • Assists with general administrative and office duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Consistent Internet access
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience in public speaking and organizational representation
  • Strong knowledge of, and passion for, film and film exhibition
  • Personable and confident demeanor.

EDUCATION
Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated undergraduate or graduate in cinema/media, communications or relevant arts area of study.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Experience with event planning and presenting film/media to the public is a plus.

SKILLS
  • Strong writing skills
  • An ease with high pressure, public situations, deadlines and creative problem solving
  • Computer skills including Mac OS, MS Office, Google mail, calendar and Drive
