ACE Summer Fellow: Democratic Governance

ACE Summer Fellows are an essential part of ACE's mission to engage young voters through nonpartisan research, and empower them to make informed choices. We are seeking students with an interest in US foreign policy with a focus on democratic backsliding and institutions to research and publish with our team this summer. ACE is a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank.

Summer Fellows collaborate to produce nonpartisan, accessible research briefs for publication. Research teams are led by ACE Research Associates, graduate students with expertise in their field or highly-qualified undergraduate students. Research Associates work one-on-one with Student Fellows to develop and provide feedback on their research projects. Teams meet once every two weeks.

Key information:
  • Time Commitment: 15 hours per week
  • Start and End Dates: May 30-August 5
  • Application Deadline: Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis, so we encourage interested students to apply as early as possible.
  • This internship is unpaid.

When applying for this position through the Summer Fellows page on the ACE website, students should indicate their interest in democratic governance.

Essential Skills:
  • Self motivated and able to work independently
  • Willing to adapt to ACE's research process and accept feedback
  • Commitment to nonpartisan values
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Familiarity with US government systems and politics

Technical Platforms:
  • ACE utilizes Google Drive to track and store all research. Previous experience with Google Drive is not mandatory, but Summer Fellows must be willing to work EXCLUSIVELY through Google Drive, not Microsoft Word or Pages.
  • ACE utilizes Slack for communication between Fellows, Research Associates, and other members of the organization. Previous experience with Slack is not mandatory, but Summer Fellows must be willing to learn how to navigate the platform and utilize it for all communications.

We are looking for enthusiastic students from all disciplines who share our belief that democracy works best when citizens are actively informed and engaged.
