Surge for Water

Project Summary

Summer 2024


Organization Description:

Surge for Water is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that invests in communities with safe water, sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health solutions to help end the cycle of poverty. Surge is currently active in Haiti, Indonesia, Philippines, and Uganda.

Surge works with community-based organizations (CBOs), our local partners, to deliver infrastructure and education programs to communities, schools, and households.

Each intervention advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the most impact on Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Other goals advanced include Goal 1: No Poverty and Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth.

 

Development & Marketing Intern -  Potential Responsibilities

  • Fundraising
    • Support our US Annual Gala with various activities including:
      • Research and outreach to companies for in-kind support and monetary sponsorships
      • Research and outreach to entertainment companies and services that align with the gala theme/experience
      • Help organize and curate silent auction packages
      • Support event operations and logistics
      • Donor/guest outreach
    • Support management of donors
    • "Research future funding opportunities, specifically with corporations
  • Social media management
    • Develop content and support posting schedules on LinkedIn, Instagram, & Twitter
    • Identify ways to create more engaging content on social media
    • Create social media templates for Instagram Reels
  • Marketing & PR
    • Develop and update team bios for Surge’s website
    • Support PR associated with US Annual Gala
    • Support blog as needed, including writing articles

Other tasks not listed may be assigned.

Projected Duration/Timeline:

Surge is interested in working with 1 student for 10+ hours/week for 10-15 weeks as soon as June 2024 – with an option to extend the internship through December 2024


We envision this as a hybrid role. Most work will be done remotely, but there are opportunities for in-person work in Chicago related to the US Annual Gala from July-September.


Compensation: This is a paid internship opportunity.
