Grounded in the Principles of Jemez, COPAL is committed to continue building meaningful relationships that transcend both identity and geographical boundaries. Wages

$20.00 per hour

 

Benefits

Paid Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST); agency sponsored retirement plan with 4% employer match and immediate vesting, plus a 2% employer contribution after one year of service.

 

Schedule

This temporary, part-time position is conducted fully in-person and requires regular travel across various regions in Minnesota.

 

A Typical Day in the Life…

A typical day as COPAL’s Canvasser provides an opportunity to mobilize the Latine vote and support COPAL’s efforts toward building Latine power across the state of Minnesota. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Conducting outreach in designated neighborhoods to educate residents about our programs and initiatives.
  • Building rapport and trust within the community to foster open dialogue and encourage participation.
  • Distributing informational materials and collecting feedback from community members.
  • Making outgoing calls to community members to inform them about services, events, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Engaging in meaningful conversations to answer questions and address concerns during phonebanking.
  • Recording and maintaining accurate data regarding outreach efforts and community responses.
  • Collaborating with team members or key stakeholders to identify key issues affecting the Latine Community.
  • Participating in training sessions to enhance knowledge and effectiveness in outreach efforts.
  • Attending community events and meetings as needed to represent COPAL.
  • Gathering and providing data to support the production of work.
  • Participating in fundraising as appropriate to the role, including site visits with funders and phone banking to increase membership/donor support.
  • Learning and articulating the foundational concepts of COPAL and those of specific units, including the mission, vision, and principles of Jemez, COPAL’s political platform.
  • Mastering the purpose (mission & vision) of each employee’s unit and understanding how their work contributes to advancing the COPAL mission.
  • Learning and becoming proficient in COPAL’s Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) systems and tech tools as needed, depending on the position’s needs and expectations.

 

Who You Are

  • You have at least one year of experience in organizing (community, politics, advocacy, community leadership, etc.).
  • You have experience initiating conversations with community members about their experiences, hopes, fears, and challenges.
  • You are a demonstrated leader and a good team player with the ability to work well with a broad team of staff and grassroots leaders, and you can motivate people with different viewpoints.
  • Previous experience in canvassing, phone banking, or community outreach is preferred.
  • You are familiar with political campaigns and demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning.
  • You demonstrate a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices, a serious work ethic, and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • You possess the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • You have knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of all socioeconomic conditions.
  • You are competent in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You have the ability to maintain a good working relationship with all coworkers and the public.
  • Ability to travel to sites within 15-mile radius of the office.
  • You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
