Speech and Language Pathologist

POSITION:      Speech and Language Pathologist – Part time (.5)

LOCATION:     District-wide

DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County.  The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 550 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school.  This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth.  Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Michigan Licensure in Speech and Language Pathology required, limited or full
  • CCC or CFY applicants welcome
  • Experience working with students with ASD and Applied Behavior Analysis preferred
  • Experience in providing services utilizing the components of a Response to Intervention or MTSS model
  • Experience facilitating the IEP process
  • Trained in, or willing to be trained in, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and staff
  • Experience using computers and educational technology

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains compliance with Individualized Educational Plans for students on caseload and Medicaid.  All other mandates required by the State, Federal and district must be maintained in a timely manner.
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing disabled children.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and correct existing speech and language disabilities.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions to the student’s daily activities.
  • Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Keep thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities that are required by the school district and/or State of Michigan.
  • All other responsibilities deemed appropriate and necessary by the Director of Special Education.
